Hajj Ahmad: The war has impoverished us, and my children sleep on "cartons."

“The war impoverished us, displaced us from our villages, and expelled us from our homes.”
A simple phrase we heard from Hajj Ahmed in Al-Sawadiya district when he came to receive his shelter kit in August 2022.
But it was a painful phrase that sums up a more painful reality of the IDPs' suffering as a result of the long years of war in the various sites and camps of IDPs.
Hajj Ahmed said, "Before the war, we were in our homes, working here and there, looking for any opportunity to provide a living. Our children used to go to school. Currently, we live in a house with no roof, and my children sleep on (cartons)."
Thousands of families in Al-Baydha governorate found themselves forced to flee after the sounds of artillery became louder and the schools were closed. One of these families who fled to Al-Sawadiya district was targeted by the National Foundation for Development and Humanitarian Response with non-food shelter kits with the support of the Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF).
Hajj Ahmed added, "We got mattresses, blankets, and kitchen utensils, which we desperately needed. My family will sleep on clean mattresses. This will help us a lot, but it will not solve our problem."
